The AusIMM Hunter Student Chapter recently delivered another successful Student Meets Industry Night for students and chapters, bringing together students and professionals for an engaging evening of networking and career exploration. Held in Newcastle, at the Crown and Anchor, the event created a valuable platform for students to connect directly with representatives from leading mining and resources companies. This even also broke the record for the our largest event recorded with over 150 attendees, showcasing our continued and exponential student growth and engagement.

The night highlighted the importance of early industry engagement, with attendees gaining firsthand insights into career pathways, graduate programs, and knowledge about the industry. Students were able to engage with a wide range of Industry Professionals, including Engineers, Scientists, Early Careers Managers, Accountants, Academics and Directors to discuss the pressing issues of the Industry and discuss the way forward.

A standout feature of the event was the strong industry presence, with companies actively sharing their experiences and opportunities within the sector. This not only provided practical knowledge but also allowed students to build meaningful professional connections that may support future employment.

Without Industry presence, events like these would not be possible. A big thank you to Glencore, Groundsearch, Hatch, Xenith, TACTech, Thiess, Bengalla, Douglas Partners, WGA, Australian Coal Preparation Society (ACPS) and Engineers Australia. We would also like to say a big thank you to our other attendees BHP, Bloomfield Group, Daracon, Hunter Marine Surveyors, JNP Resources, Australian Geomechanics Society, University of Newcastle Academics and Career Services representatives, AusIMM Hunter Region Branch and AusIMM Director Michelle Lawson. Your contributions are integral for students to engage with the industry and without you, we would be lost.

Overall, the Student Meets Industry Night demonstrated the Hunter Student Chapter's ongoing commitment to fostering professional development and supporting the next generation of energy and resources professionals. Events like these continue to play a crucial role in shaping students' career journeys and strengthening ties between universities and industry.
